Dear Councillors and Villagers,
On Thursday 1st May 2025, all West Northamptonshire residents went to vote for their councillors for the next 4 years.
For you, it meant becoming part of a new ward – Rural North East. It is with great pride that I can report that the electoral turnout in our ward was nearly 45%, the highest in West Northamptonshire.
I am pleased to say that I shall be your Councillor until 2029 and shall serve you and your community to the best of my ability. What does this entail in practice? It means that I will be:
– taking an active interest in all the villages in the ward by establishing a good relationship with your parish council;
– updating all parishes quarterly by newsletter;
– helping every villager who contacts me regarding issues with WNC; and
– holding the WNC administration to account.
I believe that it is worth elaborating a little about the last point. Your council has 76 councillors: 42 Reform, 17 Conservatives, 9 Labour, 6 Liberal Democrat and 2 independents. Therefore, The Reform party is the administration and is responsible for delivering WNC services. Since they have not published a manifesto, it will be rather difficult to hold them to account. Nevertheless, that is what I shall do on your behalf as I have the privilege to have been appointed the Shadow Finance Portfolio holder and have been asked to sit on the Audit and Governance Committee. I shall endeavour to make sure that every pound you pay in Council Tax is spent wisely and that your Council prioritises issues that affect you most.
With this in mind, I truly thank you for having trusted me to represent you and deliver on your behalf. Please do not hesitate to contact me by email at cécile.irving-swift@westnorthants.gov.uk or by telephone on 07769740468
Kind regards
Cécile
